Shopping IV

It's no secret that shopping was overwhelming when we first moved here.  First, we knew basically zero language.  Second, sometimes choices for products can be so limited that you can only find certain things in maybe one store like for example finely grated Parmesan cheese only sold at Tesco.  However, there are other times when you have so many choices that you aren't really sure what to buy.

One area that can be overwhelming is the condiments.  You want ketchup, mustard, or some other sauce and you have no shortage to choose from.  Here are just some ketchup choices and if we don't buy the right one, a few of our people are not happy campers especially the youngest!

Yes, people eat ketchup on Pizza here.  I have no idea why but it's a thing.

Lies!  Nothing that says spicy is every actually spicy.  It's led to great disappointment.

The other area that scared me initially was the white flour selection.  Flours are named and numbered by how they are milled and how fine the grains are ground.  Some are better for breads, others, pierogies, others cakes.  But how do you know which one????  Sometimes, they actually print a picture on the flour which shows you what the flour is best for.  In other cases like with all of these, you just have to figure it out with time.  Oh, and there are so many alternative flours like rye, corn, almond, rice, etc.  That can make it even more confusing.

Dogs of Lubin

We feel so fortunate to live in a place where you can leave your beloved dog outside while you run into grab a few things at the store, pay a bill at an office, or go to the post office.  People really do take their dogs everywhere here.  Dogs can ride public transit.  There are many parks including a dog park here for them to enjoy.  If only all dog owners were courteous enough to pick up their doggy business.  Other than that, it's so nice to see so many people owning dogs in spite of not having yards.  Walking the dogs is a great way to mingle within this community.

Our own Pascal waiting to go home.
